The anxiety associated with any form of dental surgery or treatment procedure is too overwhelming. It is the postoperative recovery, which is more of a process and highly demands pre-planning and support. At Discovery Dental & Implants in Las Vegas, patients have always received tailored guidance and resources to ensure maximum comfort after procedures.
Here are helpful tips to ensure that you recover smoothly after treatment:
Stick To The Post-Op Instructions
Adhere to all the recommendations of your dentist, whether written or oral. If you are put on some medication, take it; if you are put on a diet, keep strictly to it and avoid your usual routine activities during recovery.
Apply Cold Therapy
You may apply ice packs to your outside face for 10 minutes at intervals to reduce the swelling and inflammation through the constriction of blood vessels brought about by your surgery. Do this within the first 24 hours.
Rest
Give your body time to heal by staying at home and resting for at least the first 24 hours following the procedure. It is better to schedule surgery at the end of the week so you can take the whole day off in the office. You will be less likely to experience bleeding if you remain reclined.
Rinse Gently
Rinsing with saltwater will keep your mouth clean without disturbing any sutures or blood clots. Refrain from forceful spitting in the first 24 hours during rinsing.
Soft, cold foods for the meals following extractions or implants would include yogurts, puddings, applesauce, or soup. This prevents chewing pain but allows nutritional intake
Hydration
Drink large quantities of water and abstain from alcohol to help replace fluids lost. Proper rehydration speeds up healing processes. Electrolyte drinks may also assist with recovery
Reduce Activity
Restrict activity to a minimum for the first 3-4 days after oral surgery, as your body needs to use all its stores to heal. Avoid heavy exercise for a little while.
Do Not Hesitate to Call
Notify your dentist if you develop excessive swelling, bleeding, pain, or other concerning symptoms during recovery. We are available to answer your post-op concerns.
With proper planning and support, it is possible to go through recovery as painlessly as possible. Let our team know how we can best assist you after your procedure.
