Oxygen is the atom that does all of the work. Part of the reason for this is that oxygen atoms don’t like to be alone. They usually come in pairs (O2) because of their electrons. When forming water and oxygen, peroxide only releases single atoms.
These oxygen atoms go into the teeth trying to find something to pair up with, eventually finding the stain molecules. The oxygen breaks up these stains with its chemical reaction, leaving your teeth whiter and more dazzling than before!
